Info for New Residents
- Driver License - 3122 W. Independence Boulevard - 704-283-4264. You have 60 days after establishing residency in North Carolina to obtain a driver’s license. If applicants have a valid license from another state, they must pass a written test, vision test and sign recognition test. Drivers must be 15 to be eligible for a learner’s permit, after completing driver’s education. To obtain their licenses drivers must be 16 years old, have had their learner’s permit for one year and have a driver eligibility certificate from their school that says they are passing their classes. The fee to obtain a license is $20 to $50 depending on the type of license, and can be paid in cash or check if you have a North Carolina bank.
- License Plates - 6058 East Independence Boulevard: 704-535-2525. Hours: 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. All vehicles in North Carolina must be inspected annually by a certified inspection station. If your vehicle is less than 13 years old, an emissions inspection is required.
